Fold Flat, Pop Up: Discover 4 Creative Card Ideas to Try!

Cardmaking is an art that brings joy not only to the creator but also to the recipient. There’s something truly special about receiving a handmade card, especially when it surprises you with a pop-up feature!

In this post and video, we’ll explore four creative pop-up card ideas that fold flat for easy mailing and storage. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting, these designs are sure to inspire you to get creative!

There is a simple formula for creating these cards and I would be remiss if I did not mention that I learned this from Jennifer McGuire during the Pink Fresh Studios Create & Connect event.

Here’s the formula to create this pop up mechanism:

+ Cut 3 shapes in same color cardstock. I prefer shapes that are easy to determine the half way point (basically not a circle)

+ Score two of the shapes down the center, burnish and fold on the score line.

+ Adhere both of those shapes, seam side facing each other flat to the third die cut shape.

+ Create your pop up using a scrap cardstock and scoring at 1/2″ intervals from each end. Glue the decorative piece to the top of this mechanism and glue the mechanism to each side of the shapes you adhered to the base. (clear as mud? just watch the video LOL)

Fold Flat, Pup Up Card Ideas

For the first card, I used Pajama Crafters Stamps Happy Camper stamp set. I am currently obsessed with this stamp set and used it HERE as well. The Hexagon dies are from Hero Arts and they make a perfect shape option for this type of card.

This card uses heart dies from Hero Arts and some beautiful hot foil sentiments from Spellbinders.

This fabulous Christmas card uses an adorable stamp set called Season’s Gifting from Pajama Crafter Stamps. This was a lot of fun to color and creates a fantastic focal element for your card.

The last card I have to share today is simple. White and color cardstock to create a fun layered look and simple stamping that anyone could do.

I used a stamp set from Pink Fresh Studios that are not available currently, as it was part of the Create & Connect event. The dies are from, you guessed it, Hero Arts.

These four pop-up card ideas are not only fun to create but also add a personal touch to any occasion. The element of surprise when the card opens makes them memorable keepsakes. Your loved ones will appreciate the time and effort you put into these delightful cards.
