I’ve been playing more and more with my Silhouette. Last week I learned how to get my MDS (My Digital Studio) SVG’s into the Silhouette Studio and cut them. I had quite the struggle because I had no idea I had to upgrade the Silhouette Studio from the version you get free to the Designer Edition. UM yeah, I was annoyed. I really didn’t think that I should have to pay $50 to Silhouette to import SVG’s into my own library. But I finally figured out this is what I had to do. OH well, I did it and now I have more design ability.
FYI – Several videos out there talk about how to import the SVG’s but never mention you have to have the upgraded version of Silhouette Studio. So here is hoping you stumble upon this blog post if you are having the same struggle.

FAQ’s about the Silhouette Cameo & Silhouette Studio.
Q: What is a Silhouette?
A: A Silhouette is an electronic die cutting machine.
Q: Why is the Silhouette different than a Cricut?
A: Because you can cut ANY SVG or basically any figure you find on the internet on the Silhouette. You can cut any SVG using the Circut Explore and the Cricut Craft Room but not the other circut machines.
Q: What is an SVG?
A: Scalable Vector Graphic. Basically it is a graphic that you can manipulate and change.
Q: How do you make something an SVG file?
A: You have to download a converter if an image or graphic isn’t already in SVG format. Just changing the extension of a file to SVG does not make it an SVG.
Q: How do you import SVG’s from MDS (My Digital Studio) into your Silhouette Library?
A: You can see the video on how to do that HERE. BUT you have to first upgrade your Silhouette Studio to Silhouette Studio Designer Edition.
Q: What is the difference between a Silhouette Cameo and Silhouette Portrait?
A: The Silhouette Portrait cuts 8 1/2 x 11 and the Cameo cuts 12×12. The cameo has a SD card reader and a LCD screen to read on and the portrait does not. OH and the price. The Portrait is less expensive.
Q: Why would you want a Silhouette?
A: Because it cuts cool stuff. It can also make mass production of something much faster.
Q: Do you have to pay for SVG’s?
A: Yes some of them, but there are a lot of free ones. Also you will get one free download SVG a week from Silhouette Studio.
