What Is a Window Card?
A window card features a cut-out or see-through panel that gives a peek at an inner design, sentiment, or surprise element. It creates depth and dimension while keeping the overall design clean and stylish. It’s perfect for showcasing detailed stamps, coordinating dies, or layered sentiments.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Create Your Card Base
Start with a standard A2 card base (4.25″ x 5.5″). Choose a sturdy cardstock to support the cut-out window.
2. Die-Cut the Window
Using a large shaped die (circle, heart, or rectangle from Honey Bee’s new coordinating dies), cut a window in the front panel of your card. You can center it or place it off to one side for a more modern look.
3. Add the Acetate (Optional)
If you want to make it a shaker window, adhere a piece of clear acetate behind the opening. Add foam tape around the edge to create a well for your shaker bits.
4. Stamp and Color Your Images
Use the new Honey Bee Stamps set to stamp your focal images—florals, critters, or sentiments. Color them in with your favorite medium and die-cut them using the matching dies.
5. Build the Inside Design
Adhere one or more of your stamped images or a sentiment inside the card, perfectly aligned with the window so it’s visible when the card is closed.
6. Decorate the Card Front
Use the rest of your stamped and colored images to decorate around the window. You can layer florals, add die-cut sentiments, or even add a little sparkle for a polished look.
Tips for Success:
- Use low-tack tape to keep your die centered before cutting.
- Double up on foam tape if you’re doing a shaker to ensure the bits move freely.
- Match the inside and outside color palettes for a cohesive design.
